INTERIM: Allowable Levels of Tritium in Public Water Policy

Whereas- Canadian standards for allowable amounts of tritium in the public water supply are 10X higher than allowable levels in the USA and Europe. Canada allows for 1000 Becquerel's per litre (bpl), the USA allows for 150 bpl. Canadian standards used to be 7000 bpl but were recently lowered due to obvious medical concerns.

Whereas- The allowance of elevated levels of radioactive tritium in drinking water are primarily due to a lax regulatory system which protects industry over public health. Whereas-CANDU technologies release massive amounts of tritium as a by-product of operations. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is hesitant to put forth regulations to protect the citizens if these stricter regulations would have negative implications on the nuclear industry.

Therefore- A Canadian Action Party government would stand by the medical assertion that there is NO safe level of radiation exposure, and regulate the industry as such.
